Lady 'Canes Storm Past Screaming Eagles

TOCCOA FALLS, Ga.- Neeli Fortson scored Georgia Southwestern's first goal only four minutes into the game against Toccoa Falls Wednesday night at TFC Field.

For Fortson this is her second goal this season and fourth goal as a GSW Lady 'Cane. Fortson set a good pace for GSW getting the early goal. The ladies fought hard and battled it out keeping the screaming egles from flying off with any goals.

The second goal came off a corner kick with a few minutes left. Avery Heid found the ball in the crowd and directed it to Haley West who put it in the net. Heid had both assists in the game.

Emily Jones got her first shut-out and first win as a Lady 'Canes keeper with six saves. The shut-out is GSW's first shut-out since the 2011 season.

The Lady 'Canes recorded 22 shots which is the most shots they have had since the 2012 season.

"I am extremely proud of the way our girls played last night.," said head coach Samantha Snow.  "Taccoa Falls gave us a fight but we stuck to our game plan and it resulted in two very well-orchestrated goals."

The Lady 'Canes are home Saturday to host Lander University at 1 p.m.
