Six Named To PBC All-Academic Women's Soccer Team

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern women soccer players Emily Blecha, Neeli Fortson, Taylor Herron, Sholeh Rezaee, Haley West and Kristi Sheridan received Peach Belt Conference All-Academic honors as announced by the league on Wednesday.

The All-Academic team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors. oversee and select the teams.

Blecha picks up her first career PBC All-Academic Honorable Mention honors this season. The sophomore forward was a Peach Belt Presidential Honor Roll Silver Scholar her freshman year. The St. Mary's, Ga., native appeared in 14 games this season.

Fortson is also making her first appearance on the PBC All-Academic Honorable Mention honors list. The Chula, Ga., native was a Peach Belt Presidential Honor Roll Bronze Scholar as a freshman. The sophomore forward played in all 16 gams in the 2015 season, started 11 and scored two goals.

Rezaee joins the PBC All-Academic Honorable Mention honors list for the first time as a sophomore. She was named a PBC Presidential Honor Roll Silver Scholar as a freshman. The Warner Robins, Ga., native played in all 16 games as a mid-fielder.

West is the fourth Lady 'Cane sohpomore to join the list for the first time. As a freshman she was named Peach Belt Presidential Honor Roll Silver Scholar. The Kennesaw, Ga., midfielder started all 16 games for the Blue & Gold and scored one goal.

Herron is making her second appearance as a PBC All-Academic honoree. She has been a PBC Presidential Honor Roll Bronze Scholar the last two years as well. The senior defender appeared in 15 games this past season, started 10 and had four shots on goal.

Sheridan is making her third appearance on the PBC All-Academic team. She was named PBC Presidential Honor Roll Silver Scholar her junior and sophomore years and a gold scholar as a freshman. The senior defender played in 13 games this season, started 12 and scored one goal.
