GSW Owens Lions In Overtime

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.- Khayla Owens scored the winning goal for the Georgia Southwestern State University women's soccer team Wednesday night against Emmanuel College in overtime.

The Lady 'Canes are now 2-0 in their season and for the first time since 2009 they are undefeated. This is also the first time since 2012 that they have won a game in overtime.

Emmanuel scored the first goal of the game in the 34th minute unassisted and GSW trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Ella Hawkins tied the game with 13 minutes remaining and GSW's defense held off the Lions to force overtime.

After six minutes of play Owens booted one to the back of the net with the assist from Shelbi Walker to take the 2-1 victory.

Elyse Gowen faced four shots, made three saves and took the win for GSW.

GSW finished with 10 shots, four of which were on goal while Emmanuel had 16 shots, six were on goal. Shatyriah Crawford had four shots, Hawkins and Owens each had two and Bri Reda had one.

The Ladies are home on Saturday to host West Georgia at 1 p.m.
