#12 Nighthawks Soar Past Lady 'Canes

AMERICUS, Ga.- Rachel VanHorn scored twice for the 12th-ranked North Georgia Nighthawks against the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team Wednesday evening at Hurricane Field to bring her season total to 14 goals.

GSW lost its ninth straight match and drops to 3-11 overall and 0-9 in the Peach Belt Conference, while North Georgia improves to 10-1-2 and 7-1-1 PBC.

Rachel VanHorn scored her 13th goal of the season and the Nighthawks first goal of the game at the 4:32 mark. UNG struck again seven minutes later off a header and put one in off a corner kick at the 33:57 mark and lead 3-0 at halftime.

UNG scored their fourth goal five minutes into the second half off a corner kick, then again one minute later from 40 yards out and then again two minutes later off a rebound.

VanHorn scored her 14th goal of the season at the 61:35 mark off a breakaway and UNG put in their last goal at the 82:46 mark off another corner kick to take an 8-0 win.

GSW finished with 3 shots, Khayla Owens and Shatyriah Crawford had the only two shots on goal.

North Georgia recorded 38 shots, 24 of which were on goal.

Elyse Gowen faced 19 shots and made 12 saves in the 69:30 minutes she played. Chelsee Wright made four saves out of the five shots she faced in the remaining 20:30 minutes.

The Lady Hurricanes are home on Saturday for Senior Day in a conference match against Francis Marion University at 1 p.m.
