Lady Hurricanes Drop Peach Belt Conference Opener

ALBANY, Ga. -- Leila Hamed and Payton Johnson led the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team with six shots each as they outshot their Peach Belt Conference foe Albany State, 19-14. Unfortunately, the newcomers came out on top with a 2-0 win over the Lady Hurricanes Saturday night.

GSW (3-3-1, 0-1 PBC) opened conference play with a loss as they only had five shots land on goal; which was led by Johnson who had three. Ram's Thuto Ramafifi put her team up in the 33rd minute off a deflection when she beat Hannah Morrone for the first goal of the game.

In the 65th minute, Albany State's (3-2, 1-0 PBC) Shana Brown-Jackson added insurance on a free kick as she put the Golden Rams up 2-0 in their first conference game this season. Although Albany State was outshot, they led with seven shots on goal compared to GSW's five.

Both teams had a total of five saves but Albany State led with more fouls (14-10) than GSW.

Up Next: The Lady Hurricanes will return home to host Clayton State on Wednesday, Oct. 2 for a 7 p.m. match start.
