GSW loses two against nationally-ranked Augusta State

The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams were swept by Augusta State on Friday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex.  

#29 AUGUSTA STATE 6, GSW WOMEN 3

The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis team fell to No. 29 Augusta State, 6-3, in a PBC matchup at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Hurricanes (5-12, 0-9 PBC) picked up a win at No. 3 doubles, but fell behind 2-1 heading into singles play.

Southwestern's lone doubles win came from Mollie McGowan and Melinda Vansant, 8-1 over Keaton Sanders and Danyel Farrell.

At No. 1 singles, Leady Cuellar improved to 11-6 on the season with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Victoria Lindqvist. Katie Adamson scored the last point for GSW with an 8-6 win at No. 6 over Farrell.

Of the Lady 'Canes 12 losses this spring, seven have come at the hands of nationally-ranked opponents. 

Southwestern is back in action on Saturday (3/27) with a 12:30 p.m. match against BYU-Hawaii.

The Georgia Southwestern men's tennis team fell to No. 23 Augusta State, 9-0, in a PBC matchup at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.

The Hurricanes (3-9, 0-6 PBC) fell behind 3-0 after doubles action, and dropped all six matches on the singles side.

GSW's best showing came at No. 1 singles where Victor Pinones-Haltenhoff won a second set tiebreaker (7-5) before losing a 10-6 tiebreak to decide the match.

Of the 'Canes nine losses this spring, six have come at the hands of nationally-ranked opponents. 

Southwestern hosts BYU-Hawaii at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
