Women win 6-3 at ABAC; Men fall 9-0

Women win 6-3 at ABAC; Men fall 9-0

Georgia Southwestern went 1-1 in match play on Thursday afternoon at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The GSW women won 6-3 and the men's team fell 9-0.  

GSW WOMEN 6, ABAC 3 

The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis team defeated the Fillies, 6-3, at the ABAC tennis courts on Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Hurricanes took two of three doubles matches, winning at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Leady Cuellar and Lauren Grogan won 9-8 (7-5) in the top slot over Bia Miranda and Keri Huett. Mollie McGowan and Melinda Vansant defeated Alejandra Gamboa and Lauren Smith at No. 2, 8-6.

In singles play, GSW picked up wins at Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 6.

Leady Cuellar improved to 14-7 overall at the No. 1 position this spring with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 win against Gamboa. Grogan took care of business at No. 3 with 6-4, 6-3 victory over Huett. Monica Osam was victorious at No. 4, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) over Jahyna Pope. Katie Adamson won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 over Smith.

The wins in singles by the three seniors (Grogan, Osam, Adamson) clinched the match for GSW, while the Cuellar/Gamboa match was still in progress.   

Southwestern returns home for a 2:00 p.m. match on Friday (4/2) against No. 30 Georgia College.

ABAC 9, GSW MEN 0

The Georgia Southwestern men's tennis team fell to the Stallions, 9-0, at the ABAC tennis courts on Thursday afternoon.

The Hurricanes fell behind 3-0 after doubles action - the closest match coming at No. 2 where Ignacio Donnett and Sebastian Munoz lost 8-5 to Rasid Winklaar and Carlos Perez. 

GSW's best showing in singles came at No. 2 where Ryan Bartz was defeated by Romain Vielliard in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

Southwestern hosts No. 11 Georgia College at 2:00 p.m. on Friday (4/2).
