Milestones reached as GSW closes season winning 1 of 3

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis team wrapped up the season by winning one of three home matches to finish 2011 with a 13-11 overall record and a 2-10 mark in the Peach Belt Conference. The Lady Hurricanes nearly doubled their win total from a year ago (6) and the two wins in conference are the most in GSW's NCAA era.

Southwestern senior Leady Cuellar picked up her 49th career singles victory during the week and ended her four-year run at GSW having played No. 1 singles in every match while never ending a season with a losing record.

Sophomore Melinda Vansant racked up the most GSW singles victories in a season (18) - since the program joined the NCAA in 2006 - after going a perfect 3-0 for the week.

The doubles team of Brooke Anglin and Mollie McGowan ended the season with a winning record (12-9) after winning two of their final three matches.

NORTH GEORGIA 7, GSW 2 

The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis team fell behind North Georgia, 3-0, after doubles play on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 9) and could not recover, losing 7-2 to the Saints.

GSW dropped to 12-10 overall, 2-9 in Peach Belt action, and North Georgia improved to 10-11 overall and 3-9 in the PBC.

Ginny Jones was victorious at No. 2 singles and Melinda Vansant won at No. 6 for the Lady 'Canes.

GSW 9, ALBANY STATE 0

The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis team had little trouble getting past Albany State on Sunday afternoon (Apr. 10) in Americus, posting a 9-0 victory.

Southwestern improved it record to 13-10 overall. The game tally was 96-8 in favor of GSW over the nine matches played. The Lady 'Canes lost three games in doubles and five in singles.

USC AIKEN 5, GSW 4

The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis took a 2-1 lead into singles action on Monday afternoon against USC Aiken, but lost four of six singles matches to come up short in its bid to knock off the Pacers for the first time in school history.

Mollie McGowan was the lone Lady 'Cane to win in both doubles and singles play.
