GSW Two-A-Days: A Spring Sports Preview

Practice is underway as the GSW Hurricane spring athletic programs start preparations for their upcoming 2013 seasons.

In preparation, GSWAthletics.com begins a weekly Two-A-Day series that will introduce you to two key players in each of our five spring athletic programs every Friday in the month of January.

Get to know the senior leaders of the Georgia Southwestern baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis , golf teams as well as the assistant Softball and Baseball coaches as they go through the 'Category 7' ringer in addition to hearing their thoughts about their upcoming seasons.

This week, meet a pair of senior standouts from the GSW golf and women's tennis programs.

Griffin capped off a successful junior season with a record-setting postseason run for the Hurricanes. He posted a 5-under 211 at the South/Southeast Super Regional and finished the three-day event tied for second to earn the program's first-ever birth in the NCAA Division II National Championships. At the national tournament he proceeded to finish 4-under and tied for ninth place in the 108-player event.

In 2011-12, Griffin took home second place at the season-opening Kiawah Island Invitational and was co-champion at the Frito Lay/Taco Bell Intercollegiate.

The Glennville native ended his junior campaign 12th in the Peach Belt Conference with a 73.4 scoring average. He posted five top-five finishes in 12 events. Of the 30 rounds played in 2011-12, he finished under par 10 times. Griffin was named to the 2012 PBC All-Conference Second Team and earned PBC Golfer of the Week honors on Feb. 23, 2012.

Next is GSW women's tennis newcomer Taylor Jones.

Jones transferred to Georgia Southwestern after playing three seasons at Divison I Georgia Southern.

The sister to current GSW tennis player Ginny Jones, she was named a scholar athlete for all three seasons that she was with the Eagles.

The Warner Robins native will have one season of eligibility with Georgia Southwestern.
