AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams lost a pair of matches, 7-2, against Shorter University on Saturday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex in the season opener for both schools.

SHORTER 7, GSW MEN 2

The Hurricanes won at No. 2 doubles and No. 6 singles against the Hawks.

Tommy Cangelosi and Chris Eastwood picked up GSW's lone win in doubles play when they defeated Colt Kelley and Robert Watson, 8-2. The matches at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles were decided by a total of three games. Evgeniv Vinogradov and Jake Koonce lost 9-7 at No. 1 and Joseph Bjerregaard and Matt Vansant fell 9-8 at No. 3.

Valentin Demande earned the Hurricanes lone win on the singles side with his 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6. Stephen Moore lost a match-deciding, 10-point tiebreaker at No. 5.

The Lady Hurricanes were unable to pick up a win in doubles play before earning two victories in singles.

Newcomer Taylor Jones was victorious in her GSW debut at No. 5 singles, winning 7-5, 6-3. Mollie McGowan won by the same score at No. 6.

Carly Cangelosi and Victoria Ondo played the closest match in doubles, losing 8-6 at No. 1 to Candice Laurent and Aurelie Gaborit.
