AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis team played well over the weekend despite dropping three matches, two of which ended in 5-4 scores.
Since joining the NCAA in 2007, the Lady Hurricanes have struggled against Lander and USC Aiken. Heading into the weekend, the Bearcats had tallied a 48-6 match advantage and USCA was only one off the pace at 47-7. Both schools defeated GSW, 9-0, last spring.
On Sunday GSW had its best NCAA-era showing against Lander.
Carly Cangelosi and Victoria Ondo earned the Lady Hurricanes lone victory in doubles with a 9-7 win over Aurelia Ruffat and Tiffany Vanhpraseuth at No. 1.
Cangelosi and Ondo won on the singles side as well for GSW. Cangelosi followed up her performance in doubles with a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 win over Ainhoa Rico Martin at No. 2 singles and Ondo won her second-straight PBC match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ruffat at No. 3.
Taylor Jones picked up GSW's final point with her 6-2, 6-1 win over Vanhpraseuth at No. 5. Jones has the highest winning percentage on the squad in singles play this season (.667).

The Lady Hurricanes moved into Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday when they hosted USC Aiken.
GSW opened the afternoon with wins in two of three doubles matches. Taylor Jones and Kalie Douberly defeated Franziska Regel and Giovanna Ramos, 8-3, at No. 2. Ginny Jones and Mollie McGowan won 8-5 at No. 3 over Julia Arruda and Caitlyn Lawrence.
USCA took four of six singles matches to earn the come-from-behind win.
Ondo won at No. 3 over Shauna Williams 6-4, 6-3. Taylor Jone was victorious at No. 5 over Julia Arruda 6-1, 6-1.
