Bearcats Beat GSW In Tennis Doubleheader

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams dropped a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Lander University on Sunday afternoon at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center. Both the women and the men suffered 9-0 setbacks.

The Lady Hurricanes record drops to 3-5 overall, 0-2 in the PBC while Lander improved to 3-2, 1-2 in PBC play.

The GSW men watch their overall record fall to 2-7 and start 0-2 in PBC. Lander improved to 5-1, 3-0 in conference play.

Both GSW programs travel to ABAC on Tuesday for 2:30 p.m. non-conference matches.

LANDER 9, GSW WOMEN 0

Lander opened the match by cruising through doubles play with three, 8-1, wins.

Kendall Crew had the strongest showing for the Lady Hurricanes on Sunday as she played Anni Poikola to a 4-6, 0-6 decision at No. 3 singles.

No. 5 LANDER 9, GSW MEN 0

The Hurricanes best opportunity for a team point against the 5th-ranked Bearcats came at No. 1 doubles where Steven Blythe and Oliver Marshall lost 8-4 to Chris Devoize and Alexander Regner.

Joel Landis won four games at No. 3 singles in a 6-2, 6-2 loss to 34th-ranked Loic Minery.

Marshall also played a nationally-ranked opponent on the singles side in his 6-1, 6-1 loss to No. 42 Marc Hofer at No. 2.
