VALLEY, Ala. - The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams made school history on Saturday as they combined to go 4-0 for the most wins in a day during the program's NCAA era.
The GSW men defeated Christian Brothers, 9-0, in the morning before picking up four wins in singles play against Point University to rally for the 5-4 win.
The Lady Hurricanes claimed two of three matches in doubles against Christian Brothers in the morning session before winning, 5-4. In the afternoon matchup, GSW rolled past Point, 7-0.
Celia del Castillo, Anneliese Leahy, Kendall Crew, Joel Landis and Jonathan Martin all had perfect days for GSW with each winning two singles and two doubles matches.
GSW returns to action on Saturday with 2 p.m. match in Franklin Springs, Ga. against Emmanuel College.
MEN'S MORNING RECAP: GSW 9, CHRISTIAN BROTHERS 0
The Hurricanes did not drop a set to CBU as the schools met for the first time in program history. Steven Blythe and Oliver Marshall were the first off the courts in doubles play as they defeated Austin Essary and Nick Wiseman, 8-2, at No. 1.
After sweeping the doubles matches, GSW made quick work of the Buccaneers in singles. Alex Canovas Ferrando picked up the first win, a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 2. Joel Landis (No. 4), Marshall (No. 5) and Jonathan Martin (No. 6) all won by the same 6-1, 6-1 mark.
MEN'S AFTERNOON RECAP: GSW 5, POINT 4
The team win came down to the match at No. 3 singles. With the overall team score tied at 4-4, Beau Millwood and Point's Daniel Blanchard went to a decisive third set. Millwood prevailed for the 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win and the Hurricanes completed their 2-0 day.
The No. 3 doubles team of Landis and Martin picked up GSW's lone doubles victory, 8-1, before the Hurricanes rallied for the team win with four victories in singles play. GSW won No. 3 through No. 6 singles.
WOMEN'S MORNING RECAP: GSW 5, CHRISTIAN BROTHERS 4
Paced by their two wins in doubles play, the Lady Hurricanes picked up the team victory by splitting the singles matches. Maria Taboada and Celia del Castillo were victorious at No. 1 doubles for GSW, 9-7, and the team of Anneliese Leahy and Kendall Crew won at No. 3, 8-3.
With the team score tied, 4-4, the decisive match was at No. 6 singles where Crew held off Darby Laschober, 6-4, 7-5. Del Castillo Torres (No. 3) and Leahy (No. 5) had already won their singles matches.
WOMEN'S AFTERNOON RECAP: GSW 7, POINT 0
The Lady Hurricanes rolled through doubles play, dropping one game over three matches to win by a combined score of 24-1. That momentum carried over to singles where GSW did not allow Point to take more than two games in any of its matches.
Toboada made quick work of Luz Padilla at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1, and Leahy won by the same score at No. 5.
