AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern men's tennis team led 11th-ranked Georgia College, 2-1, after doubles play and threatened to pull off the upset Saturday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex with a pair of wins in singles, but the Bobcats held off GSW, 5-4. The women lost, 8-1, to No. 19 Georgia College.

GSW returns to action on Sunday with a noon match at Columbus State.

#11 GEORGIA COLLEGE 5, GSW MEN 4

The Hurricanes led 2-1 after doubles play thanks to an 8-6 victory by Steven Blythe and Oliver Marshall at No. 1 and an 8-6 win at No. 3 by Joel Landis and Jonathan Martin. Alex Canovas Ferrando and Beau Millwood had an opportunity to make is a sweep in doubles, but came up short in an 8-5 match at No. 2.

Marshall was ahead 4-1 at No. 5 singles when Mattia Campus had to retire due to injury and Martin earned the last GSW team point with a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) win at No. 6.

Georgia College clinched the match at No. 4 singles where Kyle Kinsler held off Landis, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.

#19 GEORGIA COLLEGE 8, GSW WOMEN 1

The Lady Hurricanes managed to win only four games against 19th-ranked Georgia College in doubles competition and the closest singles match came at No. 2, where Celia del Castillo lost 6-3, 6-2 to Jena Kelly.

GSW's lone team point came at No. 6 singles where Anneliese Leahy was awarded the win after her opponent, Kristen Jones, retired.
