Trio Named To Peach Belt All-Academic Tennis Teams

AMERICUS – Georgia Southwestern State University placed three student-athletes on the 2017 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic tennis teams announced Monday afternoon by the league office. Junior Anneliese Leahy and sophomore Kendall Crew earned recognition for the Lady Hurricanes, while Beau Millwood represented GSW on the men's team.

Leahy was named all-academic for the second consecutive year. The Augusta, Ga., native holds a 3.481 GPA as nursing major. She led the team in Peach Belt singles victories while finishing with conference wins in two of her final three matches of 2017. Leahy played in several different slots for the Lady Hurricanes on the singles side, but the majority of her matches were split between No. 5 and No. 6. She also tallied six doubles victories throughout the spring playing at No. 3 on all but two occasions, with five wins coming when paired with Crew.

Crew earned the honor in her first year of eligibility. The Americus native holds a 3.578 GPA as a business management major. She saw action in three different singles positions over the spring, but most of her matches were split between No. 5 and No. 6 as she alternated with Leahy. The pair also tallied five doubles victories.

Millwood was named to the team in his first year of eligibility. The Hoschton, Ga., native holds a 3.586 GPA as a nursing major. He played No. 3 singles for the Hurricanes this spring, in all but two matches, and joined Alex Canovas Ferrando at No. 2 doubles.

The Peach Belt All-Academic teams are part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
