Lady 'Canes Finish 3rd Of 7 At SCAD Atlanta Invite

NEWNAN, Ga. - Sophomore Ashleigh Owens led the Georgia Southwestern cross country team to a third place finish at the seven-team Savannah College of Art and Design Atlanta Invitational Friday evening. Owens paced the Lady Hurricanes by finishing the 5K course in 21:02.9 for 11th place out of 61 competitors.

Savannah Ross was right behind Owens with a time of 21:29.0, good for 13th place while teammate Katherine McGarr was the third GSW runner across the line in 21:59.3, placing 17th. Eyonnti Edwards finished 20th overall by finishing in 22:17.4. Victoria Hickom had a time of 22:34.8, she was 23rd. Lauren Ard returned from injury to finish 27th with a time of 23:09.8. Mary Catherine Calcutt crossed two slots behind Ard at 23:15.4. The final Lady 'Cane still finished in the top half overall as Shelby Parsekian had a time of 23:32.9.

Owens time ranks 10th all-time in a 5K race for the GSW program.

Finishing with 23 points, SCAD Atlanta took home the team title. West Georgia came in the runner up spot with 43 points.

Rebecca Lord from SCAD Atlanta crossed the finish line first overall with a time of 19:17.0 to win the event.

The Lady Hurricanes return to action Saturday, Oct. 10, when they head to Milledgeville, Ga. for the D2 Georgia Collegiate Championships at 9:45 a.m.
