On The Road Saturday: Cross Country Returns To Fort Benning, Ga.

Saturday's Race:

The Lady Hurricanes are at the 27th Peach Belt Conference Cross Country Championships which will be held this year on the base of Fort Benning, Ga.

Race time for the 5K is 9 a.m.

Admittance to the event is free, but those wishing to attend need to allow time to pass through security at Fort Benning. More information about gaining access to the base, directions and maps can be found at http://www.peachbeltconference.org/sports/wxc/2017-18/17FortBenning

The Lady Hurricanes are familiar with this course as they ran it back on Sept. 23 in the Cougar Invitational hosted by Columbus State. Senior Ashleigh Owens set a new GSW cross country 5K record as she led the Lady Hurricanes to a sixth place finish out of 12 teams.

Owens shattered the previous GSW record by 14.24 seconds, finishing the course in a time of 19:27.42 to place 12th overall.

Last Time Out: 

October 6 - GSW finished 11th of 15 teams at the Florida State Cross Country Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla. Ashleigh Owens paced the Lady Hurricanes by completing the 5K course at Apalachee Regional Park in 20:19.8 to place 30th out of 116 competitors.

Katherine McGarr posted a time of 21:46.6 to place 60th. Connie Lewis was the third GSW runner across the line, placing 76th in 22:55.9.

Savannah Ross (23:28.9), Daria Woods (26:28.4), Hannah Brown (27:08.8) and Erica Day (27:26.1) followed for the Lady Hurricanes.
