Owens Leads Cross Country to Third Place at MGA Invitational

MACON, Ga. - Senior Ashleigh Owens led the Georgia Southwestern State University cross country team to a third place finish Saturday morning at the Middle Georgia State Invitational. Owens completed the 5K course in 21:00.6 for second place out of 38 competitors.

Junior Katherine McGarr posted a time of 22:15.5 to place sixth and sophomore Connie Lewis was seventh overall at 23:11.2.

Savannah Ross (25:36.1), Erica Day (32:11.4) and Cymone Pauley (46:30) followed for the Lady Hurricanes.

Finishing with 35 points, Oxford College took home the team title. The champs had four runners finish in the Top 10 of the individual standings to distance themselves from runner-up Point University (62).

Rebecca Guadiana from Point crossed the finish line first overall with a time of 20:43.9 to win the event.

The Lady Hurricanes return to action Sept. 23 when they head to Fort Benning, Ga., for the 14th Annual Cougar Invitational.
