Cougars Claw Victory in Front of Raucous Storm Dome CrowdJanuary 29, 2020Columbus State never trailed and took advantage of 31 points from its bench to defeat the GSW men's basketball team, 89-82, in the Storm Dome on Wednesday evening. The Hurricanes suffered back-to-back losses at home for the first time this season to fall to 8-9 overall and 3-8 in the Peach Belt Conference. CSU won for the fourth time in its last five games to improve to 12-7 overall and 7-4 in the PBC.

Braves Bang for Boards to Beat GSWJanuary 25, 2020UNC Pembroke pulled down 19 more rebounds than the GSW men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon to control the pace of the game and hand the Hurricanes an 88-72 loss in the Storm Dome. GSW suffered only its second loss at home this season (7-2) to fall to 8-8 overall, 3-7 PBC. UNC Pembroke won its fourth straight game to improve to 14-4 overall, 8-2 PBC.

Hurricanes Suffer Back-to-Back Losses Following Lander UpsetJanuary 11, 2020A pair of second half breakdowns led to back-to-back losses for the Georgia Southwestern State University men's basketball team this week. GSW suffered its first home loss of the season on Wednesday when the University of North Georgia erased a seven-point deficit in the final two and a half minutes to force overtime and went on to defeat the Hurricanes, 72-65. On Saturday at Flagler College, a tied game at halftime turned into a one-sided affair as the Saints defeated GSW, 109-77.

With the win, Georgia Southwestern improves its record to 5-0 at home this season, 6-3 overall.

Hurricanes Drop Conference OpenerDecember 19, 2019The GSW men's basketball team opened Peach Belt Conference play with a 77-68 loss at Augusta University on Thursday night in the Christenberry Fieldhouse, a building that has not been kind over the years to squads from Americus. The Hurricanes only victory in Christenberry Fieldhouse came in Feb. 2007. GSW is 1-9 all-time in the series as the road team and 2-17 overall against Augusta.

Coombs comes to GSW from Oklahoma Panhandle State University where he completed his first season at the helm for the Aggies. In his lone season in Goodwell, Coombs guided OPSU to a 16-14 overall record, and the program earned a conference playoff berth for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
