  • GSW tennis well-represented on ITA academic award lists

    The Georgia Southwestern men's and women's tennis teams combined to place six players on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) national Scholar-Athlete list released recently for the 2010-11 academic year. In addition, the GSW women's tennis team was one of only 36 NCAA Division II schools to receive an All-Academic Team award.

    The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams combined to placed three players on recently released 2011 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Teams. Sophomores Mollie McGowan and Ryan Bartz, along with senior Victor Pinones-Haltenhoff, received First Team honors.

    The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis team wrapped up the season by winning one of three home matches to finish 2011 with a 13-11 overall record and a 2-10 mark in the Peach Belt Conference. The Lady Hurricanes nearly doubled their win total from a year ago (6) and the two wins in conference are the most in GSW's NCAA era.

    The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis team extended its current winning streak to three matches after cruising past West Georgia, 9-0, on Friday morning at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex. The Lady Hurricanes lost only one game in three doubles matches and six games in 12 sets of singles play.
  • Lander tennis takes two from GSW

    The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams were unable to defeat Lander University at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon. Leady Cuellar won two matches for GSW on the women's side, but the Lady 'Canes lost 6-3. The men were defeated 9-0.

    Tied 4-4, it was only fitting that the deciding match between the Georgia Southwestern and Shorter University women's tennis teams went three sets on Wednesday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex. Unfortunately, for GSW the 11th-ranked team in NAIA escaped Americus with a 5-4 win.

    The men's and women's Georgia Southwestern tennis teams were defeated by Armstrong Atlantic on Sunday afternoon in Savannah. The third-ranked AASU men's team topped GSW, 9-0. The third-ranked AASU women knocked off the Lady Hurricanes, 9-0, as well.
  • Nationally-ranked Flagler squads sweep GSW

    The men's and women's Georgia Southwestern tennis teams were defeated by Flagler College on Saturday afternoon in St. Augustine. The 17th-ranked Flagler men's team topped GSW, 7-2. The 16th-ranked Flagler women knocked off the Lady Hurricanes, 9-0.

    We catch up with senior Leady Cuellar and sophomore Melinda Vansant of the GSW women's tennis team to get the latest news from the court. The Lady Hurricanes are 7-1 at this point in the season and in the midst of one of the best starts in school history. GSW won seven matches all of last spring (7-16 overall).
