Hurricanes Fall in 13 Innings to Auburn-Montgomery

As the temperature slowly cooled off at Hurricane Field on Monday evening, so too did the Georgia Southwestern State University bats. Despite a strong effort from starting pitcher RM Cozza, the GSW baseball team was unable to put a run on the board after the eighth inning and eventually fell to Auburn University-Montgomery 4-3 in 13 innings. Davis Lambert's two out single and RBI in the 13th won the game for the visiting Senators (17-8).

The Hurricanes took the early lead with a run in the third. However, Auburn-Montgomery scored three in the sixth. The ‘Canes answered with a run of their own in the sixth to cut the deficit to one and eventually tied the game with their last run in the eighth.

Byron Haynes led the way offensively for GSW going 2 for 5 on the night with an RBI. Daniel Lynn and Nick Rex also had two hits apiece against the Senators. With his two-hit performance Monday, Lynn has extended his personal hitting streak to 16-games.

Cozza went nine innings in a no decision for the ‘Canes. He gave up three runs on six hits and struck out seven while walking only one. Brandon Reeder (0-2) took the loss in three and 2/3 innings on the mound.

GSW could not find a way to get to Allen Ponder (1-1) during his five and 1/3 innings of relief. Ponder struck out nine Hurricane batters while earning the win.

The Hurricanes fell to 6-14 on the season. GSW hosts Valdosta State on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 4pm.
