DAHLONEGA, Ga. - North Georgia College & State University
scored 25 runs on as many hits, including four home runs, to take
game one 25-11, and played comeback kids in the nightcap to take a
9-8 win in 11 innings.
After a wild pair of games, GSW falls to 15-31 on the year and 6-17
in league play, while the North Georgia improves to 31-17 overall
and 15-11 in the PBC.
In game two, North Georgia overcame a three run deficit in the
seventh to force extra innings where they came back from two down
in the tenth to finally rally and win in the eleventh inning.
The Hurricanes were led by Trey Reeves who belted a three-run homer
in the third inning. Patrick McCarthy had a pair of hits, while
Noble Coley added three base knocks including an RBI and run
scored. DJ Decker hit a double.
The Saints had four players with multiple hits, including Rob
Flanigan and Andre Airich who each recorded three hits. Flanigan
also added his team-best 18th home run, while Logan Sharrett and
Petitti each put up two hits.
Brandon Reeder (0-5) took the loss for the ‘Canes.

In game one, North Georgia recorded a season-best 25 runs on as
many hits. Airich had the biggest game of his career, pounding out
five hits and driving in seven runs while scoring three times,
including a grand slam in the opening inning to cap an eight-run
first. Craig Brisson also added five hits and four runs scored,
while seven other players contributed multiple hits.
The Saints notched back-to-back-to-back home runs in the second
inning as Petitti, Anders Oster, and Brisson all homered as part of
a six-run second inning. North Georgia scored all 25 runs in five
innings as they rounded out the scoring with a four run eighth
inning as Kevin Morrison and Oster recorded RBI hits to give the
Saints a 25-11 win.
Even though the ‘Canes were outscored by 14 runs, they put 11
runs of their own on the board in the game one loss. Byron Haynes
had the big blow, a three run homer, his sixth HR of the season, to
left field in the fifth inning to put a lid on the five-run inning.
Haynes added a double and recorded a stolen base. Francisco Gomez
had two hits, including his first home run of 2008. Five other
‘Canes added two hits.
Nine pitchers entered the game for the two teams as Chris Curtis
(7-2) picked up the win in five innings of work. Andrew Whiggum
(1-7) took the loss for GSW.
