Tusculum College scored three runs in the eighth inning to come
back from a 7-5 deficit for an 8-7 win against Georgia Southwestern
on Saturday night at Hurricane Field.
A three-run second inning gave the Hurricanes an early 3-1
lead. The two clubs exchanged a run in fourth and three runs
in the seventh.
All of the visiting Pioneers' runs in the eighth came with two
outs. On a night that saw plenty of "3s" in the line score,
perhaps the most devastating was the three errors committed by the
'Canes to aid Tusculum in taking the lead.
Kevin Carroll led the Hurricanes offense with a 3-for-4
night. He knocked in a run and scored twice.
Nate Grabowski was perfect at the plate for Tusculum, finishing
4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Aaron Hudgins had
three hits for the Pioneers and Sean Cotton added two.
Bud Fuller took the loss for the 'Canes, allowing three runs - two
earned - in 1.1 innings out of the bullpen.
Tio McLean earned the win for Tusculum, throwing two scoreless
innings in relief.
GSW and Tusculum meet tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Hurricane Field to
wrap-up the weekend series with an afternoon doubleheader.
