Pitchers shut down Albany State in 7-0 win

A pair of runs in the first inning turned out to be all that was needed for Georgia Southwestern on Tuesday evening as four Hurricane pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout of Albany State in a 7-0 victory at Hurricane Stadium.

Trent Dooley knocked in two of his game-high four RBI on a double to left-center in the first frame.

The margin remained two until the seventh when GSW tacked on five runs in a six-hit inning. Dooley picked up this final two RBI and Chris Lingham brought a run around on a single up the middle. ASU had two wild pitches and a passed ball in the frame to keep GSW runners on the move.

Hurricane starter Travis Barrett (1-0) earned his first win of the season with six scoreless innings of work. Barrett struck out five and held Albany State to two hits. Stephen Daneman, Corey Hawes and Chris Carroll each tossed a scoreless frame, combining to strikeout 6 of 9 batters faced.

David Lewis took the loss for ASU, allowing eight hits and five runs (four earned) in 6.1 innings.

Zack Stanton went 3-for-4 for GSW with two runs scored. Dooley, Michel Coffey and Bud Long had two hits apiece.

Corey Reeves and B.J. Stewart had the only hits for Albany State (5-4).

Southwestern (4-3) is back in action on Friday, hosting the defending national champions, Lynn University at 4 p.m.
