Hurricanes win series finale at No. 15 NGCSU

The Georgia Southwestern baseball team won the Peach Belt Conference West Division series finale Sunday afternoon at No. 15 North Georgia, 8-7.

Zack Stanton finished the day 3-for-6, scored two runs, hit a double and a two-run home run to lead Southwestern at the plate. Jared Allen went 3-for-5 with two RBI.  

North Georgia broke a scoreless game in the third inning with two runs on two hits. 

The Hurricanes took the lead in the sixth with five runs on five hits. Allen, Trent Dooley and Kevin Carroll had RBI singles. Bud Long drove in two with a double.

NGCSU scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to pull within two, 5-3.

An Allen double to right center field knocked in a run for GSW in the seventh.

North Georgia scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Stanton's two-run blast down the left field line in the eighth proved to be the difference.

The GSW defense made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth as two errors helped NGCSU shave the margin to one. With two outs and a runner on third, the Saints grounded out to third to end the game.  

Hurricane starter Tyler Daniel (2-2) picked up the victory, going five innings, allowing five hits and three runs (two earned). Chris Carroll threw four innings of relief and earned his second save of the spring, scattering three hits and four runs (all unearned).

Alex Simmons (0-1) surrendered a walk and committed a balk in his short appearance to take the loss for North Georgia (15-7, 6-3 PBC).

GSW hitters were walked 10 times on Sunday.
 
The Hurricanes (10-6, 4-2) return home to host Brewton-Parker on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
