Former Georgia Southwestern third baseman Zack Stanton signed a contract to play professionally for the Frontier League’s Evansville (Ind.) Otters on Monday (June 14).

The Marietta native impressed Otters staff and front office during a successful two-day tryout over the weekend and was one of two players - out of 70 participants - offered a contract.

He made his debut Monday evening for the Otters and contributed immediately going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs scored as Evansville downed Gateway 10-6.

Stanton, who started all 48 games this past spring as a senior for the Hurricanes, hit .324 with six home runs and 50 runs batted in. He led the squad in triples (2) and total bases (106).

A four-year member of the GSW baseball program, Stanton finished his collegiate career with 43 multi-hit games and 30 multi-RBI games over 141 games played (133 as a starter).  

He joins Paul Bush, who is pitching for the Trenton Thunder - AA affiliate of the New York Yankees - as former GSW baseball players playing professionally.
