Hurricanes drop season opener

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Georgia Southwestern baseball team dropped its season opener, 3-0, at Barry University on Friday evening.

The Hurricanes managed only three hits in the game.

BU scored the game-winning run in the third when leadoff batter Drew Dwelly walked, stole second and eventually crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Garcia.

The Buccaneers scored a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.

Trent Franzago took the loss for GSW, throwing four innings and allowing a run on two hits. He struck out six. Cameron Blinn allowed two runs in 1.1 innings of work. Stephen Daneman pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and struck out four. Corey Hawes struck out the only batter he faced.

Barry starter Manny Rodriguez tossed seven innings and struck out 11 while holding GSW batters to one hit. 

The weekend series resumes tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
