Hurricanes win 4th straight

ALBANY - The Georgia Southwestern baseball team scored three runs in the first, led 6-1 after four innings and sealed an 11-5 victory at Albany State on Tuesday afternoon with five runs in the ninth.

The Hurricanes (7-6) are back over .500 and in the midst of a four-game winning streak. Albany State falls to 3-10 overall and the Golden Rams have lost five in-a-row to GSW.

Southwestern did not have an extra-base hit in the ballgame, but was successful on all six stolen base attempts.

John Duran led the 'Canes at the plate with a 4-for-5 afternoon. He walked once and drove in two. Andrew Anderson and Andrew Archer turned in three-hit performances. Anderson walked once. Archer had two RBIs.

Jacob Campbell, William Smalls and Theodore Tramontana had two hits apiece for ASU. Smalls hit a two-run home run in the sixth.

GSW starter Brandon Vazquez (1-1) threw seven innings, allowed three runs and five hits, struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

Stephen Daneman pitched the final two innings, gave up two runs on five hits and struck out two.

Clifford Petersen (0-3) took the loss for the Golden Rams. Petersen pitched six innings, surrendered seven hits and six runs - four earned - while walking six.

Jontario Stokes was roughed up for five runs - four earned - in three innings of work. Stokes allowed seven hits while striking out two and walking one.

The Hurricanes travel to West Georgia on Thursday for a 5 p.m. game.
