GSW completes season sweep of UWG

AMERICUS - Michel Coffey went 4-for-5 to lead the Georgia Southwestern baseball team past West Georgia, 7-2, on Thursday evening at Hurricane Stadium. 

GSW (14-10) collected 14 hits and scored in six different innings to defeat the Wolves (8-14).

The Hurricanes won, 8-1, in Carrollton on Feb. 24, thus completing the season sweep of West Georgia. GSW has won all five meetings between the schools in the Hurricanes NCAA era.

John Duran hit a solo home run for Southwestern in the fifth inning, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Andrew Anderson and Heath Lock added two hits apiece, as well.

Brandon Vazquez (2-1) threw seven innings and held UWG to six hits and two runs behind one walk and four strikeouts. Stephen Daneman closed out the game with two innings of scoreless relief.

GSW returns to Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Augusta State.
