AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern head baseball coach Bryan McLain welcomed a 12-member recruiting class to campus this fall in preparation for the 2012 season.

"Once again, Coach (Nick) Tracy and Coach (Robert) Morgan put in a tremendous amount of work and put together what we think is an outstanding recruiting class," said McLain. "Replacing some key losses from last year's team was a challenge, but these guys were able to fill all of our needs with what we think are talented baseball players as well as good people."

The group consists of five transfers and seven freshmen.

Transfers are Frank Ambrosino, Justin Lott, Blane Parker, Gabby Ramirez and Chase Young.

The freshman class includes Chase Burnfin, Lane Dixon, Dylan Folds, Logan Holland, Travis Holmes, Ryan Mosely and Devyn Newberry.

"I was pleased that we were able, for the second year in a row, to bring in a solid group of freshmen," said McLain. "We think they will have the opportunity to contribute early in their college careers."

GSW is coming off a 27-21 season and a fourth-place tie in the six-team West Division of the Peach Belt Conference.

The Hurricanes are in the midst of fall practice which culminates with the 12th annual Blue vs. White intrasquad best-of-five-game series Nov. 4-6. Players are drafted to a side prior to their first season with the 'Canes and remain on that team throughout their GSW career.

The 2012 regular season opens Feb. 4 when GSW entertains Barry University at Hurricane Stadium.
