Gusler Heads South To Join Hurricane Baseball

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University head baseball coach Bryan McLain has announced that 6-foot-6 right-handed pitcher Layne Gusler will transfer from Henry Ford College in Dearborn, Mich., to play for the Hurricanes in 2016.

"Layne was HFC's No. 1 pitcher last spring and had a tremendous year," McLain said. "We are thrilled that he is going to be a Hurricane."

Gusler posted a 9-1 record in 2015, with seven complete games, and a 2.13 earned run average to lead the Hawks. He earned All-Michigan Community College Athletic Association First Team honors and was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region XII First Team.

"Layne has the physical tools to possibly be pitching at the next level one day," McLain said. "But more importantly, he is a tremendous competitor as evidenced by the number of complete games he had at HFC."

The Brownstown, Mich., native ranked fifth in NJCAA Division II last spring in complete games and at bats against while coming in 25th nationally with 73 strikeouts. His nine wins ranked 11th.

"We are expecting Layne to continue to be a guy with quality stuff who can give us a chance to win in the PBC (Peach Belt Conference)," McLain said.
