Kranick Transfers To GSW

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University head baseball coach Bryan McLain has announced that 5-foot-9 infielder Alex Kranick will transfer from Pasco-Hernando State College in New Port Richey, Fla., to play for the Hurricanes in 2016.

"Alex is a great addition to our program," McLain said. "He comes from a family that instills the values of hard work both on the field and in the classroom as evidenced by his 3.4 GPA at PHSC."

Kranick led the Conquistadors to a 32-15 record and a No. 20 ranking in the final National Junior College Athletic Association Division II poll of 2015 with a team-high .336 batting average. He ranked third on the squad in doubles (9) and walks (22) while posting the eighth-fewest strikeouts (13).

"Having hit well over .300 in both seasons competing in the Florida College System Activities Association, we feel he will provide added punch to our offensive production," McLain said.

The Tampa, Fla., native saw time at shortstop and second base at PHSC but will be asked to slide over to third for GSW.

"We are looking for Alex to help solidify our infield play, focusing at third base," McLain said. "But obviously his versatility on the defensive side provides us with options if needed."
