King For A Day

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior Davey King went 4-for-5 with a double and RBI on Tuesday evening to lead Georgia Southwestern past Trinity Baptist College, 6-1, in the Hurricanes season opener.

GSW took advantage of two hit batters and a pair of walks in the first inning, and jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Jared Jones picked up his first RBI of the 2016 campaign with a sacrifice fly to center field. That would prove to be all the cushion the Hurricane hurlers would need.

King doubled to center field to open the fourth inning and three batters later scored on Devyn Newberry's infield single in the hole at shortstop. Dakota Long proceeded to plate Newberry and Will Redding with a double to right field. GSW scored three runs in the fourth to extend its lead to 5-1.

King brought home Alex Kranick in the eighth with an infield single to round out the scoring.

Long finished 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs. Newberry added a pair of hits and scored twice.

John Shiver led TBC batters with a 3-for-4 performance.

Earl Dupree (1-0) kicked off his senior season with a win as he tossed two scoreless innings. Kyle Spinks faced six batters and fanned four during his two innings on the hill. GSW used six different pitchers in the game as both sides limited their hurlers to no more than two innings of work.

The Eagles trotted five pitchers out to the mound. Starter Tyler Crumley took the loss for TBC after allowing two runs in two innings.

Southwestern returns to Americus to host Clark Atlanta in a three-game, non-conference series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
