Martin Named Peach Belt Conference Freshman Of The Week

AMERICUS, Ga. - Georgia Southwestern State University outfielder Jonathan Martin was named the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Martin hit .533 with an .867 slugging percentage over four games for the Hurricanes collecting three doubles, a triple and four RBIs. Over the weekend, in a three-game series against ninth-ranked Francis Marion University, Martin hit .636 with three doubles and four RBIs. He went 3-for-3 in the opener, drove in three and scored twice. He went 4-for-5 in Game 3 with two more doubles and a RBI as GSW took two of three from the Patriots. Martin has a hit in six of his last seven games.

The Irwinville, Ga., native becomes the first Hurricane since 2013 to earn the Peach Belt's Freshman of the Week honor and, for the first time in program history, GSW baseball has earned multiple weekly awards in a season from the PBC as Dylan Brown was named Pitcher of the Week on March 6.
