Hurricanes Place Four On PBC All-Academic Baseball Team

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University juniors Mitch Holloway, Matt Hubbard, Josh Logan and Dakota Long have been named to the 2016-17 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic baseball team.

Holloway, a relief pitcher from Plains, Ga., garnered his second consecutive PBC All-Academic award and appeared in a team-high 21 games for the Hurricanes in 2017. He leads the pitching staff with five wins and is tied for the NCAA era school record with six saves this spring.

In the classroom, the special education major holds a 3.722 grade point average.

Hubbard was named to his second straight PBC All-Academic team as well. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native made 18 appearances out of the bullpen, threw 24 2/3 innings and completed the regular season with a 1-1 record and one save. Hubbard's best outing came on Feb. 4 when he struck out five over two scoreless innings against Mars Hill University.

In the classroom, the exercise science major holds a 3.32 grade point average.

Logan, a Lawrenceville, Ga., native, is also a two-time recipient of PBC All-Academic honors. He split his time between designated hitter and left field this spring for the Hurricanes. Logan finished the regular season with a .289 batting average and a .331 on base percentage. He collected multiple hits in 12 games, including back-to-back 3-for-5 games at Montevallo on April 8.

In the classroom, the political science major holds a 3.438 grade point average.

Long, a Macon, Ga., native, earned his first selection to the All-Academic squad. He started 37 games behind the plate for GSW and finished the regular season with a .240 batting average and a .328 on base percentage. Long collected multiple hits in seven games, including a 4-for-5 outing with a double and home run in the series finale at No. 22 Georgia College on April 22.

In the classroom, the exercise science major holds a 3.472 grade point average.

The All-Academic team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. Honorees have a minimum of a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and completed at least one full academic year at their current institution.
