Martin Wins Sunbelt Batting Title

AMERICUS, GA. -- Junior baseball player Jonathan Martin won the 2018 batting title for Sunbelt Baseball League, batting an average of .325 throughout the summer. Within 28 games, Martin was at bat 83 times. He earned 12 runs, 27 hits and batted six doubles for the Gwinnett Tides. 

The left-handed outfielder was responsible for eight stolen bases, six runs batted in, 12 walks and only made two errors for the Tides. He had 97 plate appearances and had a .398 slugging average to end the season.

The Tide went 8-21 to cap the summer, posting a team batting average of .229. They were at bat 885 times, earned 120 runs and 203 hits. 

Martin's .325 average was based on a .2.7 minimum of plate appearances per team game, as the award was presented by Dove Tail Bats.
