Hurricanes Go 1-2 in Eckerd College Series

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University baseball team dropped two of three games against Eckerd College at Hurricane Stadium over the weekend to open its 2022 season. The schools split a doubleheader on Saturday before Eckerd jumped to an early lead Sunday and cruised to a win in the series finale. Anthony Angelino led GSW at the plate in the series with a pair of doubles and a home run.

Game 1: Eckerd 6, GSW 0

The Hurricanes struggled offensively in the season opener netting just one hit total. Jared Donalson got the start for GSW allowing one earned run in four innings striking out five. Colby Gordon pitched three innings of scoreless relief.

Game 2: GSW 9, Eckerd 1

The bats came alive for GSW, crusing to an eight-run win by way of a five-run fourth inning. Gregory Wozniak had three RBI's in the game and Nick McCollum got the start and win for the Hurricanes allowing one run over five innings. Wozniak, Angelino and Reid Ragsdale had two hits apiece.

Game 3: Eckerd 7, GSW 1

An early outpouring of runs by Eckerd was too much as the Tritons scored six of their first seven runs in the first three innings of the game. An Anthony Angelino homerun was the lone run for the Hurricanes in the series finale. Peyton Sells threw four innings in relief, held Eckerd to one run and struck out five.

The Hurricanes return to action on Friday night when they open a three game series at top-ranked Tampa.
