Hurricanes Come Up Short in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Al. -- Georgia Southwestern (18-23) lost in their second game of back to back midweek matchups against Auburn University in Montgomery (25-17) on Wednesday night. It was the second midweek matchup of the week after the Hurricanes defeated Embry-Riddle at home on Tuesday in extra innings.

The Hurricanes took advantage of a leadoff walk to begin the contest, moving Miles Hartsfield to second on a 5-3 groundout and bringing him in to score on an Anthony Angelino RBI single up the middle to go up 1-0 in the first. The Warhawks battled back by scoring three in the second inning. GSW tied the game, scoring three runs in the top of the third via solo shot and an RBI sac fly. The Warhawks answered in their next at-bat with a two-run, go-ahead home run to left-center.

In the eighth inning Georgia Southwestern would load the bases up with Josh Newton coming to the plate. Newton would hit a sac fly bringing the deficit to one but the outfielder would throw behind a Hurricane runner at second base prompting the umpire to call the runner out for leaving early to end the inning.

The Hurricanes head back to Americus for a weekend Peach Belt Conference series versus Augusta University.
