Canes Lose Late To Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern baseball team lost the series opener against Augusta University Friday afternoon. The Hurricanes took the lead in the top of the first inning on a Grant McDonel RBI single.

The Hurricanes extended the lead in the top of the third inning on a solo home run from Paul Hegeman. Augusta scored on a sac fly in the bottom of the inning.

 GSW would add to the lead in the fourth inning scoring three runs with hits from Miles Hartsfield and Chris Patterson.

The Hurricanes had a four-run lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning Augusta would not be denied as they scored three runs in the inning narrowing the Hurricanes lead.

GSW scored again in the top of the ninth on a Victor Sanchez RBI single. In the bottom of the inning, Augusta tied the game on a sac fly the Canes surrendered a three-run walk-off homer that gave Augusta the win.

Despite a losing effort, Victor Sanchez had a great game going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base. A total of four Hurricanes had multiple hits and three had RBIS

The Hurricanes will stay on the road against Augusta at Jaguar Field 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
