COLUMBUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern baseball team split its doubleheader at No. 13 Columbus State on Friday afternoon.

Game 1 L, 8-3

Columbus State scored in the first inning on a sacrifice fly bringing home the runner from third base. 

GSW answered back in the second inning when a wild pitch from Columbus State scored Reid Ragsdale and the Canes tied the game at 1-1.

The game was not tied for very long when Columbus State hit a solo home run to give them back the lead in the second inning.

Columbus State went on to score six more runs and close the game out against the Hurricanes. 

GSW scored only one more run in the eighth inning on a John Austin Sutton fielders choice that scored Kalvin Alexander.

Three Hurricanes players recorded multiple hits Jake Blinstrub 2-for-5, Miles Hartsfield 2-for-4, and Kalvin Alexander the rest of the team only managed three hits against Columbus State pitching.

Usually, Reliable pitcher Rijnaldo Euson struggled hurling five and one-third innings giving up nine hits and six runs earning his first loss of the season and falling to (6-1)

Game 2 W, 5-3

GSW won game two of the doubleheader Friday evening defeating #13 Columbus State 5-3.

Similar to game one Columbus State scored first on an RBI double that gave the Cougars the early 1-0 lead in the second inning.

The Hurricanes retaliated by scoring two runs on three hits in the third inning one being an RBI single from second basemen Cory Lee.

Columbus State tied the game in the fourth inning with a solo home run.

GSW broke the tie in the fifth inning on a Miles Hartsfield two-RBI single.

Both teams scored in the eighth inning as the Canes were able to hang on to win 5-3.

Three GSW batters recorded multiple hits the best being Garret Bradley going 4-for-4 and scoring two runs.

Joe Roden earned his first win of the season pitching in mop-up duty he tossed five innings gave up one run and struck out six batters.

The Canes win the series two games to one over PBC rival Columbus State.

GSW will stay on the road to face Valdosta State in a midweek contest Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. from Billy Grant Field this will be the second time facing Valdosta State Canes lost the first game in Americus 9-2.
