Saturday Here In the Park You Get A Win

AMERICUS, Ga.  -- The Georgia Southwestern baseball team extended their winning streak to five games by defeating Columbus State 10-8 in the winner's bracket game of the PBC Double Elimination Baseball tournament.

The Cougars threw the first punch in the top of the first inning with a two-run single from Wylie, and a sacrifice fly from Nelson that gave the Cougars the 3-0 lead.

Anything can happen in the tournament including the Hurricanes tieing the game in the bottom of the third inning on a Cory Lee three-run single and in the blink of an eye the game went back to being tied with a score of 3-3.

After three scoreless innings, the Cougars gut-punched the Hurricanes scoring four runs in the top of the seventh which included a three-run double from McDade that gave the Cougars the 8-3 lead.

Not so fast GSW delivered the knockout punch in the bottom half of the inning the Canes scored seven runs in the inning that concluded with a Jared White two-run home run.

Columbus scored another run in the top of the eighth but it was not enough as the Canes held on to the 10-8 victory.

PBC first-team pitcher Rijnaldo Euson was roughed up in his start but battled and kept the Canes in the game he tossed 6.1 innings gave up eighth hits and surrendered five runs in a no-decision. 

Colby Gordon again had another great relief outing he pitched two scoreless innings and closed out the game as the Hurricanes will advance to the championship round. 

GSW will face off against the Cougars again due to Columbus State beating Augusta tonight in a second game at 12:00 p.m. Sunday from Hurricane Stadium.
