Adams Shines on the Hill; GSW Tops VSU

AMERICUS, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern State University starting pitcher Grant Adams turned in a dominant performance on Tuesday night at Hurricane Stadium to pick up his sixth win of the season and lead the Hurricanes to their fifth consecutive victory with a 10-1 decision over Valdosta State University.

Adams (6-3) threw 6 2/3 innings, held the Blazers to one run, scattered three hits, walked three and struck out seven. He retired the side in order four times, including a stretch that covered 11 consecutive outs.

The GSW offense provided all the run support Adams would need in the first inning when they pushed across three runs behind a two-run single from Brant Deerman and a RBI single from Paul Hegeman. The Hurricanes added three more runs in the fifth and plated four more insurance runs in the sixth. GSW produced 12 hits in the game with only one being for extra bases, a Noah Roberts double in the fifth inning. Roberts, Deerman and Miles Hartsfield all finished with two hits apiece.

Daniel Barcena and Daemon Woodruff combined for 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief without allowing a hit to close out the evening. Barcena struck out two during his 1 1/3 innings of action.

The Hurricanes (18-5, 4-2 PBC) travel to Milledgeville, Ga., this weekend for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series against Georgia College & State University. Game 1 of the series is Saturday at 1 p.m.
