Hurricanes Blow Past UNC-Pembroke 63-41

The Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern State University took to the floor Saturday afternoon in their last home stand of the season against the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. GSW - with all eight players dressed and ready - fought its way to a 63-41 victory over the Braves.

The Hurricanes surged out to an early lead and never looked back - shooting 45.8 percent from the floor and 50 percent from behind the arc during the first half. GSW led the Braves 32-19 going into the locker rooms at the half. Although Pembroke's shooting improved from 30.8 percent to 50 percent in the second half, the Hurricanes continued to light it up from 3-point range to put points on the board. The ‘Canes finished the game sinking 13 of 29 (44.8%) from behind the arc, compared the Braves' 5 for 16 (31.3%) 3-point performance.

Anthony Sargent went 7 for 13 from behind the arc to lead all scorers with 25 points and eight rebounds. Aaron Wyatt, recovering from a bought with the flu earlier in the week, poured in 15 points for the Hurricanes while Ric Roderick also pitched in 11 points to help lead the charge. Johnathan Hart scored 18 points and pulled down 9 rebounds to lead the Braves.

GSW improves to 8-18 and 5-14 in Peach Belt play, while UNC-Pembroke drops to 7-18 and 2-16 in the Conference. Georgia Southwestern will finish the season at Augusta State University on Saturday, March 1, 2008.
