LIVINGSTON, Ala. - Phillip Brown connected on 10 of 12 shots and finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds to post his third-straight double-double and lead the Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team to a 60-50 win at West Alabama on Thursday evening. The Hurricanes improved their record to 7-3, equalling last season's win total.

Brown scored eight of GSW's first nine points in the contest and 14 of the team's 29 first half points, hitting 7 of 9 shots.

The Hurricanes and Tigers went into the halftime break tied, 29-29.

GSW opened the second half with an 11-2 run, capped by a Jamon Hawkins layup at the 15:13 mark.

The Hurricanes would extend the margin to 12 points on two occasions, the last coming with 9:59 remaining when Trayce Macon knocked down the second of two free throws.

UWA would chip away at the lead and eventually pull within four (54-50) with just under two minutes to play.

GSW connected on six consecutive free throw attempts down the stretch to pick up its first road win of the season.

The Hurricanes shot 22 free throws in the second half, while attempting only 14 field goals.

For the game, GSW connected on 43.2 percent from the floor and held UWA to 34.5 percent shooting. The Hurricanes held a 34-14 points in the paint advantage and a 41-27 rebounding edge.

Jamon Hawkins chipped in nine points for GSW. Trayce Macon added eight.

Ryan Fitch led West Alabama (5-8) with 13 points.

The Hurricanes return to Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday at 19th-ranked Montevallo. Tip is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
