MILLEDGEVILLE - Behind a game-high 23 points from Evan Mobley, the Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team won their third-consecutive road game, an 80-65 victory at Georgia College on Wednesday evening.

GCSU entered the game as the only Peach Belt Conference school the Hurricanes had yet to defeat since becoming Division II members of the NCAA in 2006. The last time the Hurricanes beat Georgia College was Dec. 4, 1998, when GSW was a member of the NAIA.

The Hurricanes connected on seven of their first 10 shots on Wednesday and opened a 17-6 lead seven minutes into the game.

GSW led 24-11 before the Bobcats went on a 14-5 run to close the margin to four points with just over five minutes remaining in the half. The teams played even the rest of period and GSW led at the break, 37-33.

A pair of baskets from Colin Slotter to start the second half sparked a 7-0 run that gave the Hurricanes an 11-point cushion. GSW pushed its lead to 21 points on two occasions, with the last coming off a Slotter layup that gave the Hurricanes a 67-46 advantage with 4:57 to play. 

The Bobcats could get no closer than nine the rest of the way.

GSW finished the game shooting 48.2 percent from the floor, compared to GCSU's 32.8 percent. The Hurricanes controlled the inside on offense, outscoring Georgia College 32-14 in the paint.

Slotter finished with 15 points for GSW. Reigning PBC Player of the WeekPhillip Brown posted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Talmadge Bell added 13 and Trayce Macon chipped in 10.

Georgia College (7-4, 1-2 PBC) had five players in double-figures, as well, led by Nate Hamilton with 14.

GSW (9-3, 2-1) returns to Americus for a three-game homestand beginning Saturday against Francis Marion at 3:30 p.m.
