Arnett Named Peach Belt Player Of The Week

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern junior guard Alan Arnett has been named the Peach Belt Conference men's basketball Player of the Week.

Arnett averaged 19.5 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in two wins for the Hurricanes last week. He shot 56 percent from the floor, hit 13 of 14 free throws and connected on 67 percent (6 of 9) from three-point range.

The Kokomo, Ind. native was simply amazing in Saturday's 94-82 win at Young Harris College as he made 8 of 14 shots, including 4 of 5 from beyond the arc, and drained 9 of 10 from the free throw line. Not only did he grab a game-high 16 boards, but he also dished out five assists, blocked three shots and had three steals. Arnett and the Hurricanes snapped an eight-game home winning streak for Young Harris and handed the Mountain Lions their first home loss since the first game of the season. GSW became the first Peach Belt Conference opponent to win a league game on the Mountain Lions' home floor.

Arnett is currently fifth in the league in free throw percentage and 11th in blocked shots. He becomes GSW's first Peach Belt POTW since All-American and former PBC Player of the Year Phillip Brown earned the recognition Jan. 3, 2012.

Arnett and the Hurricanes host Columbus State at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in an important inter-division tilt that could decide who goes to the postseason tournament and who stays home.
