AMERICUS – Georgia Southwestern State University head men's basketball coach Mike Leeder has announced that assistant coach William Monts has left the program to become the head men's basketball coach at Warren Wilson College in Ashville, N.C. Monts leaves Americus after one season as a member of Coach Leeder's staff.

"On behalf of Georgia Southwestern State University and the athletic department, I want to wish Coach Monts the best in his endeavor with the Warren Wilson College Owls basketball program," said Leeder.

A native of Irmo, S.C., Monts was assistant men's coach for five seasons at Anderson University (S.C.) before joining GSW in 2012.

Monts takes over a WWC program that compiled a 35-19 record over the past two years, including the 2013 national championship in Division II of the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association. The Owls finished this past season with a 12-game winning streak en route to the USCAA national title.

Monts' promotion marks the second-straight year that a Leeder assistant has advanced to become a head coach on the collegiate level. Stephen Cox departed last summer to become the head men's coach at Thomas University in Thomasville.
