FORT VALLEY – Kevin Burnell hit three three-pointers in overtime as Georgia Southwestern improved to 3-0 on the season with a 79-77 win at Fort Valley State on Tuesday. The Hurricanes got 33 points from their bench players in the game and held the Wildcats to 36 percent shooting on the night.

The game was tied at 58 with 5:59 to play following a layup from Alan Arnett. GSW then took the lead on a Daryl Davis layup but lost it as FVSU went on a 7-2 run capped by a Brandon Davey layup with 3:33 to play.

Davis responded to cut the lead to one with 2:07 to go and GSW went up by three following two Jamon Hawkins' free throws and another Davis score. With 39 seconds to go, the Wildcats tied the game on a three-pointer from Joshua Davis. Arnett's three attempt at the buzzer did not go, sending the game into overtime.
 
Burnell, who scored 13 points off the bench for GSW, hit the first of his three pointers just over a minute into the extra period, the first bucket by either team in the OT. He followed that up with back-to-back bombs from long range giving Georgia Southwestern a 77-72 lead with 2:17 to go. 
 
Davey answered with a three for Fort Valley and the Wildcats tied the score again with 28 seconds left with a pair of Davis free throws. Darius Redding was fouled by the Wildcasts on the next possession, and made one of his two free throw attempts. FVSU had the last shot, but Bell's jumper with seven seconds left did not fall. GSW was fouled and Arnett hit one of two for a two-point margin; Fort Valley did not get off a last attempt as Redding's steal with five seconds left closed the door.
 
Arnett scored 20 and added a team-best 13 rebounds for the Hurricanes while Redding came off the bench with 20 of his own and 10 boards. Davis scored nine and added 11 rebounds while Jamon Hawkins added 11 points and five assists. GSW outrebounded FVSU 51-44 in the game and shot 42 percent from the floor.

Davis led all players with 26 points for the Wildcats while Davey added a monster line of 23 points and 17 rebounds in the loss. 

The Hurricanes look to keep their season-opening unbeaten streak alive on Thursday when they host West Florida in the Storm Dome at 7:30 p.m.
