AMERICUS - Johathan Brooks posted his fifth double-double of the season by scoring 22 points and grabbing 13 rebounds to help Georgia Southwestern remain undefeated and lead the 24th-ranked Hurricanes to a 105-100 victory over Clark Atlanta University on Wednesday evening in the Storm Dome.

GSW improved its record to 8-0, which continues to extend the best start in program history since Southwestern joined the NCAA in 2006-07. Clark Atlanta dropped to 2-4. The Panthers never led in the contest.

The Hurricanes started the game scoring in a unique way, with the first 14 points being contributed by seven different players. In the third minute, after Alan Arnett's second free throw, GSW held its largest lead of the game at 15 points. Brooks and Jamon Hawkins led Southwestern offensively over the opening 20 minutes with 14 and 10 points, respectively. At the half, GSW led Clark Atlanta by 13 points, 56-43.

The Panthers gave the Hurricanes a run for their money in the second period. By the 9:22 mark, CAU had trimmed the GSW lead to two. In an attempt to catch up and beat the Hurricanes, the Panthers started fouling down six, 99-93, with 1:14 left. Sending Arnett to the line, where he broke the 100 point barrier for the Hurricanes. Of GSW's last seven points, five were from the free throw line. CAU had two chances to tie the game with 3-pointers in the closing seconds, but could not convert and long pass ahead from Arnett allowed Brooks to seal the deal with a dunk inside the final horn. 

This was the first time the Hurricanes passed 100 points in a game since a 106-70 victory over Clearwater Christian on Dec. 16, 2011. It was the first time GSW allowed 100 points in almost six years (Jan. 23, 2008).

Joining Brooks with double-figure points was Arnett (20), Darryl Davis (15), Redding (15), and Jamon Hawkins (14).

The Hurricanes connected on 62.1 percent of their shots over the course of the game. The Panthers shot 50.0 percent overall. GSW grabbed one more rebound (36-35). Clark Atlanta's bench contributed 55 points compared to GSW's 28.

Dwanye Bingham led the Panthers with a double-double behind 23 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Kevin James added 20 and Jarrel Joye and Jordan Husley chipped in 19 points each.

Southwestern opens Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday when Georgia College visits the Storm Dome for a 3:30 p.m. game.
