YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The 24th-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team put together a strong second half at Young Harris on Saturday afternoon to pick up a 76-75 Peach Belt Conference road victory.

GSW improved its record to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in the PBC. Young Harris dropped to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in PBC play.

The Mountain Lions led for most of the opening 27 minutes of Saturday's contest. After Daryl Davis scored the first basket of the game to give the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead, GSW would not be on top again until 12:48 remained in the second half.

YHC held its largest lead of the afternoon, eight points, on two different occasions in the opening period, with the last coming after a Sam Watson layup put the Mountain Lions ahead 35-27 with 3:36 remaining until the break. GSW scored the final five points of the period to shave the margin to three heading into halftime.

An Alan Arnett dunk put the Hurricanes ahead 48-47. Johathan Brooks capped an 8-0 run that gave Southwestern its largest lead of the game, 52-47, with 11:54 left.

YHC pulled ahead at the 6:44 mark when a jumper by a C.J. Wilson put the Mountain Lions on top, 62-61. The Hurricanes would not lead again until Darius Redding sank a free throw with six seconds left to make the score 76-75.

GSW trailed by six points with 3:12 to play and closed the game on a 7-0 run. Redding swatted away a Watson layup with two seconds to go to seal the win.

Southwestern shot 50 percent (15 of 30) from the floor in the second half while holding YHC to 37.5 percent (12 of 32). GSW finished at 46.7 percent for the game, pulled down by a 4 of 14 (28.6 percent) afternoon from beyond the arc.

GSW dished out three more assists (15-12) than YHC and held an advantage in points in the paint (40-32) and bench points (32-16).

Arnett led the Hurricanes with 20 points behind 7 of 14 shooting. Redding added 14 points off the bench and Brooks posted his sixth double-double of the season by scoring 12 points and grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds. Arnett, Redding and Brooks combined for 31 of Southwestern's 44 second half points.

Watson led YHC with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Wilson added 14 points and Isaiah Johnson chipped in 11.

Southwestern returns to Americus to host UNC Pembroke on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
